Importance of Web Design
First impressions carry a lot of weight. And the first impression of any brand or product is usually the website. A well-designed website goes a long way in giving your company a look of quality and professionalism. If your credibility is on the line, why would you ever opt for the cheaper option?
One of our top-notch web designers, Garth, sits down and imparts on us his wise web wisdom.
Why you decided to go into web design?
I’ve always been a design-nerd; playing with pixels and foraging for fonts has gotten me excited me ever since I was little boy. And for many years, it was just a hobby…nothing too serious. But, several years ago, I was able to put my passion for beautiful design into practice when a friend asked me to build a website for the non-profit organization that he runs. It was the first time I had ever done something like that, and I quickly discovered that I absolutely loved it! I enjoyed the process of building a website from scratch, and the creative freedom that came with it. I was instantly hooked, and I began devouring articles and tutorials in order to teach myself to be the best designer I can be.
How much work goes in behind the scenes for a website or a landing page that you create for clients?
Just like building a house, tons of planning takes place before we even start building a website. We figure out who the audience is and what message we are trying to convey. We examine and analyze tons of other websites to see what we like and what we don’t like. And we plan out our call-to-action carefully so that we can encourage maximum conversions. Once a site is built, we also spend time testing it out and tweaking it to make it as streamlined and efficient as possible.
Why having a stellar webpage is important for marketing efforts?
Having a stellar webpage is like going on a blind date: you have one chance to make an awesome first impression, so you have to make it count. If your website doesn’t “Wow” people right away, they’ll lose interest and leave…and if they leave, they may never come back. Make sure that people will want to come back to your website, and stir up curiosity in them so that they’ll want to explore even more.
What you think is most important lessons in web that you would pass on to younger generations and kids?
Keep things simple. Keep the focus on what’s most important, and make sure everything else around it supports that purpose.
Why do you love your job?
First of all, I get to work with exciting clients and an amazingly talented team. Also, the world of web design is always changing, so there’s always something new to learn!
